Wet Room Flooring

Trusted Wet Room Flooring Suppliers & Installers in London, Reading, Berkshire & Home Counties

At Meadee flooring, we have a specialist team of fitters who are competent fitting safety wet room flooring in Berkshire, London and the surrounding counties. A wet room is where water from a shower falls directly onto the floor, so there’s no step or lip into the shower area. A wet room is particularly practical for less abled people because of this.

Wet rooms must meet certain standards for slip resistance as the mixture of water and contaminants such as shampoo’s can make flooring slippery. In these type of areas, we install safety vinyl flooring. Polyflor, Altro and Forbo are popular choices for wet rooms as they offer ranges suitable for these areas.

What is Wet Room Flooring?

Wet room flooring is vinyl flooring that is suitable for areas that are subject to large amounts of water. The main difference between wet room vinyl compared to other safety vinyl is they are specially designed to be used barefoot. Some of the more popular ranges are suitable for use barefoot or with shoes, even when wet, which is especially important if accompanied by a carer.

The flooring is often coved up the walls a minimum of 100mm and welded in the corners to create a water tight finish. Products such as Altro Pisces and Aquarius, Polyflor Quattro and Forbo Safestep Aqua are popular choices for wet rooms. They all feature enhanced slip resistance even whilst there are contaminants such as water, shampoo or conditioner.

Wet room Flooring Installation and Consultancy

At Meadee flooring, we want your wet room project to go swimmingly so there’s a few things that need to be done differently from any other bathroom before we can fit the flooring.

Firstly, we need a vinyl tuck down drain to be installed into the floor and your builder should have either put in a wet room tray or have suitable falls. The wall covering, be it ceramic tiles or Whiterock etc should be finished 100mm from the floor and a captile trim fitted whilst you’re installing your wall covering. This is a trim where one side fits into the back of the wall covering and the other side, the vinyl flooring fits into it.

This is a crucial part that makes the joint between the walls and the floor water tight. At this point, we latex over your subfloor to give it a smooth finish for vinyl to sit on and then we can install your wet room flooring.

Please note that we don’t create falls or fit drains, and it’s the responsibility of your builder to make sure there’s an adequate fall so the water runs into the drain. We know this might look a little bit complicated, so please get in touch if there’s something you’re unsure of. We’re always happy to help.

What is the Best Flooring for a Wet Room?

The best flooring for wet rooms tends to be vinyl flooring, such as flooring from Altro, Polyflor and Forbo, installed by Meadee Flooring. Historically, vinyl flooring for a wet room had an embossed layer with dimples. Although this is still available, alternative products without the dimples are widely used and are easier to keep clean.
