One of the most important considerations about flooring for healthcare facilities is that it must be easily cleanable and not harbour bacteria, which is why carpets aren’t used in clinical or treatment areas. We often replace carpet in GP surgeries with vinyl flooring that is fitted capped and coved. This means the vinyl is taken up the wall by approximately 100mm to create a watertight finish that is very easy to clean.

Usually, a sheet vinyl product is best due to it being easy to clean and slip resistance characteristics. The Department of Health recommend a sheet flooring system in clinical areas, non-clinical dry areas, heavy traffic areas and specialist clinical areas.
