Nature Reserve West Sussex

Brief

This national bird and wildlife conservation charity with a nature reserve and café, contacted us when they required some new flooring in their kitchen area.

Our estimator visited the site to meet the customer, measure the area and establish what was required from the new flooring.

As this flooring was going to be in the kitchen area, where there is a high risk of spillages, we supplied the customer with some samples of floorings which we thought would suit the area best. The customer decided to go with a grey safety flooring, Altro Stronghold 30.

Altro Stronghold 30 is a safety flooring vinyl product with 3mm thickness and wear layer. It achieves Altro’s highest slip rating, scoring PTV > 55 on the pendulum test and having a R12 slip rating which is perfect for a busy kitchen area.

The customer previously had the original ceramic tiled flooring but decided to change this and lay this new flooring due to the product’s high slip resistance and the ease of keeping it clean and hygienic.

Process

On commencement of the job, we initially degreased the tiles before applying a layer of F. Ball’s Stopgap P141 primer. We then used a coat of latex to create a smooth surface ready for the new floor to be fitted.

Ball’s Stopgap P141 is an acrylic primer designed to improve the adhesion of smoothing compounds on non-absorbent subfloors. Formulated with recycled uPVC powder, it dries to a hard, textured surface that significantly enhances bond strength and long-term performance.

Once the latex had dried and the subfloor was prepared, we fitted the new flooring, capped and coved the perimeter, and welded all joins to create a seamless look.
