College in Southall, London

Brief

This further education college in Southall, West London, first contacted Meadee Flooring in 2024 to fit a 68m² teaching room, then came back to us in 2025 for new flooring in their toilet areas. As with every college and school flooring project we take on, safety, durability and minimal disruption to term-time were the priorities throughout.

Process

After talking through their requirements and going through samples, the college chose Heckmondwike Supacord carpet tiles: a heavy contract-grade, fibre-bonded carpet tile at 6.2mm thick, built for the kind of daily footfall a college classroom or corridor sees. They wanted more than a plain floor, so we worked with them on a two-colour design, a main colour with a feature colour picked out in the centre of the room.

We primed and latexed the subfloor to get it ready, then laid the carpet tiles tessellated, to the manufacturer’s installation guidelines, to bring the design to life.

Happy with the result, the college came back to us in 2025 to replace the flooring in their toilet areas. Our estimator visited the site to assess the space and take measurements, and we provided samples of a few safety flooring options. The college specified Altro Classic 25 in Graphite: a 2.5mm safety vinyl with a Pendulum Test Value (PTV) of ≥45 and an R11 slip rating, built to hold its slip resistance over years of heavy use.

We uplifted the old flooring, prepared the subfloor with primer and latex, then fitted the new vinyl, capping and coving the perimeter where it was needed and welding every joint for a fully sealed, hygienic finish.

Result

The college now has a durable, design-led carpet in its teaching space and a safety-rated, easy-to-clean vinyl floor in its toilet areas, both finished to the standard we bring to every college and school project.
