What is care home flooring?
Care home flooring needs to do two things at once: feel homely for residents, and hold up to the demands of a healthcare environment. That means a non-porous surface that’s easy to clean and helps prevent the spread of bacteria, plus enough durability to withstand high foot traffic and heavy equipment day after day. Flooring is also something CQC inspections take into account when assessing infection control and a safe environment for residents, so getting the specification right matters for compliance as well as comfort.
Care home floors also need to be dementia friendly. That means avoiding highly speckled or very shiny finishes, since these can cause visual confusion for residents living with dementia. A plain, simple design is recommended by the Dementia Services Design Centre, and it’s something we factor into every recommendation we make.
